PTC reduces bus and rail fares

The Public Transport Council (PTC) has concluded the 2016 Fare Review Exercise and has decided to: Simplify the current fare structure, by lowering the fares for the fully-underground rail lines to the fare level of above-ground rail lines; Grant an overall 4.2% fare reduction, which translates into reductions of 1 to 27 cents for card fares; and Carry forward the remaining -1.5% of the fare quantum to the next Fare Review Exercise, to spread out the impact of volatile energy prices over time.

Commencement of 2016 Fare Review Exercise

The Public Transport Council (PTC) has commenced the 2016 Fare Review Exercise. Train operators may submit fare adjustment applications to the PTC for consideration by 7 October 2016. With the transition of the public bus industry to the bus contracting model, bus operators will not be required to apply to the PTC for approval of fares.

PTC Releases Inaugural Report Suggesting Public Transport Improvements for Commuters

The Public Transport Council (PTC) has submitted its inaugural Advisory Report on public transport improvements to the Minister for Transport. In January 2016, the PTC assumed a new role to promote the interests of public transport commuters through recommending ways in which service quality and commuter experience could be improved. PTC has completed a wide-ranging consultation exercise with commuters and public transport stakeholders in the past six months to develop these recommendations.

Public Transport Council (Taxi Fare Pricing Policy) (Amendment) Order 2016

It is notified for general information that, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 23B(1) of the Public Transport Council Act (Chapter 259B), the Public Transport Council will make amendments to paragraph 13 of the Public Transport Council (Taxi Fare Pricing Policy) Order 2016. The Public Transport Council (Taxi Fare Pricing Policy) (Amendment) Order 2016, which will be published in the Gazette, will come into operation on 29 February 2016.
