The PTC regulates bus services and bus/train fares. Train and
taxi services are regulated by the Land Transport Authority (LTA). The LTA
also regulates private-hire/school/tour buses, Malaysia/inter-city
coaches and bus/taxi vocational licensees (drivers).
Basic bus operators (SBS Transit/SMRT Buses) are responsible
for bus route planning and service provision in their areas of
responsibility. Day-to-day running of bus/train/taxi services are the
responsibility of the respective operators. In addition, concessionary
travel schemes and ez-link ticketing system are under the purview of
Transit Link, a service company jointly owned by SBS Transit and
SMRT.
Members of the public should pursue directly with the public
transport operators concerned on issues pertaining to bus route planning and
day-to-day operation of bus/train/taxi services. Examples of such operational matters are service frequency,
capacity provision, overcrowding, behaviour of drivers/staff, cleanliness and
condition of vehicles, deployment of aircon/non-aircon buses, provision of
passenger information, etc. They should
also deal direct with Transitlink on issues related to concessionary
travel, ez-link ticketing system (e.g. wrong deduction of bus fares), etc.
